Uncle Kit: Does no response mean the “Merpati” exposé is true after all?

WHY hasn’t the Home Ministry’s quick response team spring into action to deny the anonymous “Merpati” (pigeon/dove) text with regard to special treatment being accorded for incarcerated ex-premier Datuk Seri Najib Razak or are the allegations true after all?

Veteran lawmaker Lim Kit Siang is seeking an answer from the authorities as the “Merpati” social media post had been in circulation for the past 48 hours and it very unlikely that the authorities are unaware of it.

“The Home Ministry and the Prisons Department must instantly give a response to the ‘Merpati’ social media post or the issue should be discussed at the Cabinet meeting to be held this morning (Sept 21),” the 81 year-old Iskandar Puteri MP pointed out.

“The authorities in the Home Ministry and the Prison Department should realise that 24 hours is a very long time in the era of social media, let alone 48 hours. Given the circumstances, the question becomes even more pertinent as to why the Home Ministry and the Prisons Department are keeping a ‘thunderous silence’.”

PKR Deputy President Rafizi Ramli and AMANAH vice president and MP for Pokok Sena, Datuk Mahfuz Omar had sought clarification from the Home Ministry and the Prisons Department yesterday (Sept 20) on the said social media post which claimed that Najib is enjoying preferential treatment while serving his 12-year jail sentence for corruption offence.

Earlier on Monday (Sept 19), FocusM expressed hope that the relevant authorities would quickly deny that an instruction was issued over the weekend by both the Prime Minister and Health Minister to admit the Pekan MP who is affably known by his Bossku moniker to the Cheras Rehabilitation Hospital (CRH).

“The ‘Merpati’ social media post (further) alleged that Najib’s cell in the Kajang Prison complex has been renovated and there are plans to move him to the CRH to allow more access to visitors and VVIP facilities,” asserted the DAP supremo and former Opposition leader.

“Where is the Home Ministry’s quick response team to the ‘Merpati’ post or are the allegations in the ‘Merpati’ post true?”

Mahfuz who claimed to be Najib’s “senior” at the Kajang Prison has demanded answers from the Government over the anonymous text which claimed that the former premier had been accorded certain privileges while he himself (Mahfuz) was not accorded any special treatment.

Mahfuz added that the public must know the truth if the Government was spending taxpayers’ money on the former premier who is supposed to be spending a dozen-year jail term at the Kajang prison. – Sept 21, 2022
