VETERAN politician Tan Sri Lim Kit Siang has taken a swipe at Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang for accusing Amanah and UMNO of being DAP’s Gurkhas for fighting against PAS and departing from the original principles and foundations of the struggle to defend religion, nation and homeland.
Lim was responding to the PAS president’s latest tirade, in which Hadi had claimed that both parties are willing to be DAP’s bulwark that do not need to be instructed, like Gurkha soldiers in the British army.
“The question that must be asked (in response to Hadi’s allegation) is whether Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was a DAP Gurkha in the 22 months he was prime minister of the Pakatan Harapan government from May 2018 to Feb 2020 and had to be toppled by the Sheraton Move,” the former Iskandar Puteri MP said.
Lim further raised the question if Mahathir was acting as DAP’s Gurkha when he announced in his speech at the United Nations (UN) General Assembly in Sept 2018 that Malaysia would ratify all outstanding human rights conventions.
“[This had caused] Hadi to go on a rampage against DAP for masterminding the plan to ratify the International Convention of the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (ICERD),” he recalled.
“In fact, DAP knew nothing about Mahathir’s speech at the UN General Assembly. The foreign minister at that time is now in Bersatu. So, the question is, was Mahathir a Bersatu Gurkha?”
Lim went on to note that it is easy to find past videos of Perikatan Nasional chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin calling PAS “parti ajaran sesat” (a party of deviationist teachings).
“Has Muhyiddin become Hadi’s Gurkha or has Hadi become Muhyiddin’s Gurkha? Hadi has become a great pal of Mahathir’s, and it would appear that Hadi could make up with a DAP Gurkha,” he remarked.
Citing the British approach as an example, Hadi had, on his Facebook page yesterday (Aug 24) alleged that DAP has managed to get new members from UMNO to fight PAS.
He added that the statements of some of UMNO’s top leaders who tried to defend DAP had shown that there was a training process to make the party a new member of DAP’s Gurkha team.
“UMNO is seen to have strayed from the original principles and foundations of its struggle while DAP is still holding firm and still fighting according to the party’s constitution, even insisting and continuing to defend the principle of secularism,” he claimed.
“The interpretation of Islam in the Federal Constitution is according to the knowledge of DAP, which is to keep Islam in a low position according to the position placed by the colonialists.”
Hadi further opined that DAP also continues to fight for the concept of “Malaysian Malaysia” which minimises the supremacy of the Muslim Malays and Bumiputeras who own this country.
The aim, he explained, is to give “equal supremacy” to foreigners according to the former colonial agenda aimed at weakening the position of Islam and the Malays who adhere to it.
Therefore, DAP chose to be with the international party that brought the agenda for ICERD to carry out colonial intervention against this country. – Aug 25, 2023
