UMNO and the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition must win big in the 15th general election (GE15) so that former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s “sacrifice” will not be for naught, said UMNO secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan.
“Solidarity means we stay together through thick and thin, through happy and sad times. We are saddened over what happened to our former party president, former prime minister and BN advisor Najib,” he was quoted as saying by UMNO Online after attending an engagement session with Pahang UMNO divisions in Kuantan.
“We are saddened because from how we see it he was not given the due process of justice. Therefore, his ‘Bossku’ spirit must be kept alive by UMNO and BN. Let’s not waste his sacrifice in prison.
“Therefore, as a way for us to not let his sacrifice go to waste, it is important for us to ensure that UMNO and BN win big in GE15.”
UMNO president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi previously said that Najib’s incarceration will not dampen UMNO’s fighting spirit and called the Federal Court’s decision to uphold the Pekan MP’s conviction and sentence in the SRC International case a “heart-wrenching” moment for the party.
In urging his fellow party members to continue to stand in solidarity with Najib, Zahid vowed that the party will continue to stand with Najib through good and bad times.
The Federal Court recently affirmed Najib’s conviction and sentence in the SRC International case and ordered him to serve his 12-year jail sentence with immediate effect. He was also fined RM210 mil.
He had been found guilty of one count of abuse of power, three counts of criminal breach of trust, and three counts of money laundering. – Sept 2, 2022
