What to expect on Bursa Malaysia this Thursday

BELOW are excerpts of viewpoints from two selected research houses on what investors can expect in the day ahead:

Berjaya Research

The FBM KLCI advanced in tandem with gains across regional markets amid growing optimism over the potential re-opening of the Strait of Hormuz.

Trading activity improved with market volume rising to 4.17 billion shares from 3.61 billion shares in the previous session.

Market breadth turned positive with 777 advancers outnumbering 466 decliners, suggesting broader-based buying interest and an improvement in overall market sentiment.

The FBM KLCI is expected to maintain a slight positive bias, supported by solid corporate earnings from selected banking heavyweights alongside improving regional sentiment as easing concerns over the Strait of Hormuz could alleviate worries over energy supply disruptions and inflationary pressures.

We expect selective buying interest to persist, particularly in fundamentally stronger counters.

Nevertheless, gains could remain measured as investors continue to assess the sustainability of the market’s recent rebound and digest the ongoing corporate earnings season.

Technically, the key index has gapped up to close at its highest level since May 2026. The immediate resistances are now shifted to 1,750 points, followed by 1,760 points. Meanwhile, near-term supports are pegged at 1,732 points and 1,711 points respectively.

Malacca Securities Research

The FBM KLCI is expected to open firmer following Nvidia’s strong results and upbeat outlook which should provide a positive read-through to local technology counters such as Aurelius Technologies Bhd and Stratus Global Holdings Bhd which have both staged technical breakouts.

We further favour them for their AI (artificial intelligence) and semiconductor exposure.

Additionally, we like Well Chip Group Bhd and Lagenda Properties Bhd as the former offers a solid outlook driven by its pawnshop expansion plans while the latter has shown resilient results recently.

All in all, both demonstrate encouraging price and volume pick-up patterns which suggest that momentum is recovering.

The FBM KLCI extended its gains to close at 1,748.54 on Wednesday as technical momentum continued to strengthen. Technical indicators are encouraging with the MACD histogram displaying a rounding bottom pattern while the RSI is above 50.

Key resistance lies within 1,764-1,779 with support expected around 1,719-1,734. – Aug 27, 2026
