Why leave out Segambut from free COVID-19 test, MP asks

AN Opposition MP today queried on why the Federal Territories Ministry (KWP) did not include her constituency for the free COVID-19 screening programme.

“With the rise in COVID-19 infections in Kuala Lumpur, particularly Segambut as reported between June 3 and 5, I was surprised that my constituency was left out from the programme.

“In fact, with rising cases in areas such as Kampung Sungai Penchala, I urge the KWP to include Segambut in the programme as well,” said its representative Hannah Yeoh, in a statement.

Yesterday, Federal Territories Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa announced that his ministry would conduct free mass COVID-19 screening exercise starting today.

The project will target densely populated areas, such as public housing apartments.

The Ketereh MP added that he would also start a pilot mobile vaccination programme, somewhere next week.

On that note, Yeoh urged KWP and the Health Ministry to expand screening capacity and rope in private labs to reduce backlogs in providing test results.

She added that it would enable the authorities to quarantine infected individuals sooner and provide them with the necessary care needed.

“It will also help us prevent the infected individual from spreading the disease, as quite a number of them are asymptomatic,” the former deputy minister stated.

On related latter, Yeoh urged the Government to include migrants in the COVID-19 screening programme as well in order to curb the spread of the pandemic.

“Don’t neglect our migrant community as COVID-19 does not discriminate based on the person’s citizenship, colour or social standing,” she remarked. – June 6, 2021.
