Woman arrested after attempting to approach Sultan Nazrin on stage during Perak National Day celebration

A WOMAN was arrested after attempting to approach Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, during the Perak state-level National Day 2025 celebration in Ipoh on Sunday morning.

The incident occurred around 8.20 a.m. while the state anthem was being played, when the 41-year-old woman climbed onto the main stage from the side.

Security personnel quickly intervened and detained her before she could get closer to the Sultan. Police later confirmed that the suspect has a history of drug-related offences and psychiatric treatment, though a urine test returned negative.

Perak Police Chief Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin said the case is being investigated under Section 325/511 of the Penal Code for attempted grievous hurt. He warned the public against actions that disrupt official ceremonies or threaten leaders’ safety.

The incident, which lasted about 40 seconds, left many attendees shocked, with some initially mistaking it for part of the event’s performance. —Aug 31, 2025
