Zahid melts the heart of non-Malay netizens by paying last respects to his adoptive Chinese mother

EMOTONS displayed by four Facebook (FB) photos of Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s paying his last respects to his adopted mother Cheah Seoh Lian who died at her home in Bagan Datuk have garnered positive responses from Chinese netizens who rarely commented on his social media posts.

“After the debate session at Dewan Rakyat this morning, I went straight to Bagan Datuk to visit the mother of my friend Beh Song Wan (a.k.a. Bujang) who just passed away,” Zahid has penned on his FB page.

“I had just met the late Cheah Seoh Lian whom I consider as my own family member when I attended Sdr Bujang’s Chinese New Year open house the other day. I would like to express my sadness with the passing of his beloved mother and hope that the whole family will be strong in facing this difficult time.”

May her soul rest in peace” respectively while Toh Jin Jay acknowledged the Bagan Datuk MP’s gesture with “The best from DPM. An indeed a top figure of unity and service for the people.”

Meanwhile, Bernama reported that Zahid spent about 20 minutes at the deceased residence in Taman Desa Bersatu, Hutan Melintang (Perak). Upon his arrival at about 12.40pm yesterday (Feb 15), he was seen comforting Bujang, 60.

The Bagan Datuk MP said his close relationship with the deceased and her six children spanned over decades, adding that he considered the family as his own.

“I have lost my adopted mother. The last time I saw her was the second day of Chinese New Year, I managed to spend time eating and chatting with her,” Zahid who is also the Rural and Regional Development Minister.

Zahid said he cherished the relationship with the family, adding that Malaysians must have mutual respect regardless of religion, race and culture to maintain harmony.

Meanwhile, Bujang’s sister Gina Beh Jiou Kim 54, said her mother’s health was in good condition, adding that she only complained of stomach ache before she died.

Cheah was buried at the Chinese cemetery in Batu 18, Kuala Bikam at 10am today. – Feb 16, 2023
