FOLLOWING reports that there were Umno leaders working towards undermining the party, party president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said he was keeping a close watch on the traitors.
“I urge party members not to worry. We all know what these ‘brokers’ are up to. There are not many of them but what they doing to Umno is unacceptable,” he said in a Facebook post.
Yesterday, Malay daily Utusan Malaysia reported that an Umno supreme council member is suspected of receiving RM20,000 monthly “reward” for leaking internal party discussion to certain quarters.
It was said that the “cash for information” issue has been going on for two years now.
In addition, the insider alleged that the Umno man has been enlisting leaders from various divisions across the country; conspiring with them to turn against the party.
Touching on the matter, Zahid said that Umno will not succumb to such tactics as the party belongs to the people and its members.
“Umno is not up for sale. As long as I’m in charge, I will defend the party to the hilt,” said the former deputy prime minister.
Zahid also addressed claims that he was not alert over the matter, adding he was monitoring party on-goings constantly.
“I’m on top of the game. Just that some people are painting me as a clueless person. I’m trying to be careful in dealing with this so that it won’t create an internal problem later on,” the Bagan Datuk MP remarked. – March 23, 2021.
