6 true meanings of Muhyiddin’s claim of PN able to win “nearly 20 seats” in Penang state polls

RETIRED DAP supremo Tan Sri Lim Kit Siang has highlighted six significances from Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin being confident of the coalition winning “nearly 20” state assembly seats to garner a simple majority in the 40-seat Penang state assembly.

For context, the Bersatu president had during the PN convention at the Penang Gerakan headquarters yesterday (June 17) said such feat is possible in today’s volatile political atmosphere even though the coalition is deemed underdogs and are constrained by all types of obstacles and pressure.

Below are the six implications put forth by Kit Siang based on Muhyiddin’s claim of PN’s prospect of winning Penang in the state polls likely to be held in August:

  • A hung Parliament in Penang State Assembly if not a new Chief Minister and a PN state government in Penang;
  • PN captures Selangor state government;
  • PN captures Negri Sembilan atate government;
  • A clean sweep for PN in Kelantan and Terengganu state general elections;
  • An overwhelming PN victory in Kedah state general election where the Pakatan Harapan-Barisan Nasional (PH-BN) coalition could win at most three state assembly seats; and
  • The toppling of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s unity government after nine months and the return of political instability and national disunity which will drive away foreign investors.

“Victories for PN in the six states in August will confirm Malaysia in the trajectory of decline towards a divided, failed and rogue state for Malaysia in the coming decades,” the veteran lawmaker spoke at the DAP Bukit Mertajam’s “Support, Sympathy, Solidarity Dinner with Lim Guan Eng in Penang Tunnel Court Case” last night (July 17).

“We must ensure that the coalition that formed the Anwar unity government retain the three state governments (Penang, Selangor and Negri Sembilan) with over two-thirds majority while making advances in Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu, by winning more than three seats in Kedah and “break the egg” in Kelantan and Terengganu.”

Kit Siang also reminded electorate in the six states – whether Malays, Chinese, Indians or Muslims, Buddhists, Christians or Hindus – not to fall for the PN siren call for a divided, failed and rogue future for Malaysia.

“The PN politicians are thinking of their own future but Malaysian voters – both Muslim and non-Muslims – must think of the future of their state and the nation, and that of their children and children’s children.”

The former Iskandar Puteri MP also hit out at PAS president Tan Sri Hadi Awang for asking Muslims in Malaysia to choose whether to “become cow or pig herders”.

“The concept that Muslims in Malaysia should choose to become cow herders or pig herders is an outdated and antediluvian concept,” berated the country’s longest serving Opposition leader of 29 years on three separate occasions.

“Malaysians – whether Muslims or non-Muslims – do not want to be cow herders or pig herders but want to be world champions again and to be a role model to the world of inter-ethnic, inter-religious, inter-cultural and inter-civilisational dialogue, understanding, tolerance and harmony.” – June 18, 2023
