KEDAH Menteri Besar (MB) Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor underwent a rigorous three-hour questioning session at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters today. The inquiry is believed to be linked to alleged corruption within the Kedah Football Association (KFA), where Sanusi serves as the president.
“About three hours… He (Sanusi) arrived at 8.30am,” Sinar Harian quoted MACC senior investigation director Hishamuddin Hashim as saying.
The investigation follows recent developments involving the remand of KFA’s CEO Zulkifli Che Haron and three other individuals over a corruption case amounting to over RM6 mil in 2020.
Meanwhile, Berita Harian sources revealed that the sum in question was purportedly a reward for facilitating a company owner in securing contracts for a race circuit project and the management of five water reservoirs in Kedah.
The graftbuster initiated the investigation based on a report filed by contractors who claimed they were promised projects in the state in exchange for funds channeled to the football association.
“However, after these contractors channelled funds to the football association’s account, they did not receive any project as promised by the individual,” a source was quoted as saying.
Frustrated by the alleged broken promise, the contractors filed a report with the MACC, triggering the ongoing probe.
On the same day as the questioning, the Kedah MB pledged to unveil what he described as a “plot”.
Moreover, he asserted that the arrests were an act of cruelty orchestrated by certain parties abusing government agencies. Sanusi claimed that the investigation was part of a larger conspiracy against those detained and insisted that he was the actual “target” of the MACC.
Sanusi further contended that KFA has funded its activities through donations since its inception, denying any involvement in corrupt practices as the association lacks access to projects requiring federal government approval.
Furthermore, Hishamuddin announced on Tuesday (Jan 9) that they would summon Sanusi for questioning in connection to the ongoing investigation. The case is being probed under Section 16a(B) of the MACC Act 2009. – Jan 11, 2023
