Old Ujang comics take the limelight for astronomical price tag

GOOD news to those comic collectors out there. Apparently, their old comics could put the best investment tip to shame.

According to a video post on X which has grabbed widespread attention, old Ujang comics could fetch a price of up to thousands.

The man in the video went on to stated that he is selling one of his year 2001 Ujang comics for RM1,500 and another from year 1999 at RM1,800.

“Should you take both of these, I will give it to you for RM4,000,” he said.

Although the video has since received over 900 reposts, quite a number of netizens were sceptical about the price.

“Is it really possible to get such a price? I have Ujang up to the 100th edition. The 99th edition was missing. My friend borrowed and lost it,” said K.A.

Reza 1998 said this is not necessarily so as there are various factors to be considered such as the condition.

“Even if it is from year 1980 and the condition is terrible, the value is still low or there is no value at all,” he said.

Several netizens, however, pointed out that there was something wrong with the man’s maths as RM1,500 and RM1,800 should add up to RM3,300. How was it possible for him to sell them both at RM4,000 then?

Another netizen wondered where these old comics could be sold to which several others responded that he could find buyers in Facebook groups.

Mienamier added that he had a room half full with Ujang, Kreko, Gempak and Gempak Starz comics.

On a separate note, one netizen claimed he owned an old Yugioh card which is now priced at 200 USD. “I immediately sent it for grading and had it framed,” he said.

Netizen mhmmdhsm also said that people should not find it weird that old comics could fetch an astronomical price, take for example, a Superman comic which was sold at 5 mil USD. He added that even a Marvel first edition comic could be sold at 500,000 USD.

Reinforcing his opinion was Mebert who suggested that old comics may be used as a form of investment.

“I am not sure about how the prices will go up for old Malaysian comics. But old American comics can fetch prices up to millions. —Feb 7, 2025
