Malays highlight unifying factor of national language when fights break out between Chinese-Indians

A VIDEO clip of a semi-brawl breaking out in a carpark has gone viral.

First posted on Facebook by Jessica Lee, it was shared on X by @anthraxxx781. The minor scuffle broke put after a misunderstanding at the exit point of a parking lot whereby one vehicle refused to move aside when there was an issue with his parking ticket.

This lack of civic-mindedness caused tempers to flare and an exchange of words that led to blows being exchanged.

It is described as a ‘semi-brawl’ because there were more words than action and alas, it is the language used in the fight that seems to have caught the attention of netizens.

Many noted that the use of the national language only comes to the fore when temples boil over.

One netizen cheekily remarked that the video was “PAS-approved” given the preference for using Bahasa Malaysia when settling their differences.

Many pointed out that this was proof that Malaysians were still united by language – at least when they get engaged in physical battles!

One cheekily remarkd that news of the Malay language’s demise has been greatly exaggerated as it “remains flourishing” as the video evidently highlights.

Some ironically observed that it took fisticuffs to demonstrate that the muhibbah spirit is alive and well.

While some observed that the episode took on a different “aura” when Malay was used instead of English or any other language.

Aside from the use of the national language, one commenter also noted a number of choice swear words from different languages have also become lingua franca. This is truly reflective of a melting pot society.

With the incident apparently having taken place in Genting Highlands, one surmised that the duo were in a bad mood due to heavy losses at the casino tables. Another teased that “temperatures can rise very fast even in a supposedly colder environment”.

Some alluded to this being similar to the “One-By One-Gentlemen” brawl episode that also went viral, making both assailants briefly internet sensations.

With one reckoning that this, too, would end the same way with smiling handshakes inside the police station.

A the end of the day, all it takes is an ugly incident for the Chinese and Indians to showcase the usefulness of the national language. – Feb 25, 2025
