More cracks appear between PH and BN: Johor PH proposes “free-for-all” contests

JOHOR PH chief Aminolhuda Hassan suggested a “free-for-all” approach for the next state election, allowing all parties to contest seats without negotiations with BN.

He argued this would eliminate voter confusion seen in federal unity arrangements and mirror Sabah’s model, where unity government allies competed openly.

Aminolhuda noted higher voter turnout in the 2022 general election compared to the state poll, highlighted PH’s exclusion from Johor’s administration, and said the party continues supporting state development through federal channels.

Johor menteri besar Onn Hafiz Ghazi previously said the state election would be held by April 2027 at the latest, in line with the current administration’s term.

In November last year, Johor Amanah delegate Ahmad Fadhli Umar Aminolhuda warned BN that PH, including Amanah, is fully prepared to contest against BN in the next state election if seat negotiations fail due to arrogance and lack of cooperation.

In October 2025, PAS Johor commissioner Datuk Dr Mahfodz Mohamed predicted that the next Johor state election and the GE16 could be held simultaneously by the end of 2026, possibly after Hari Raya Aidiladha in May.

He cited information that DAP had requested Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to combine both polls to save costs. —Jan 25, 2025
