SCIENTIFIC & Industrial Instrumentation Pte Ltd (SII) whose Malaysian affiliate SII Scientific (M) Sdn Bhd provides environmental instrumentation, technical support and engineering services has been appointed a Singapore authorised distributor by UK-based fixed gas detection manufacturer International Gas Detectors Ltd (IGD).
The appointment formalised through a distributor and channel partner agreement inked on Sept 29 for an initial term of 36 months covers a full spectrum encompassing the promotion, sale, installation, servicing and calibration support of IGD’s gas detection products and services across Singapore.
Beyond that, it marks a further step in IGD’s Sweden-headquartered parent Safe Monitoring Group’s (SMG) Asia-Pacific growth strategy following its entry into the region earlier this year by pairing IGD’s UK-engineered detection technology with SII’s five decades of instrumentation, calibration and gas detection expertise in Singapore.

“This partnership brings together two organisations with a shared conviction: that protecting people, equipment and the environment demand both world-class technology and deep local capability,” enthused SII’s CEO Melvin Tan Wei Yang who is also the USP Group Ltd executive director/CEO.
“By pairing IGD’s British gas detection engineering with SII’s instrumentation and calibration heritage in Singapore, we can give customers a complete solution – from system design and installation to calibration, servicing and lifetime support.”
For the SGX Mainboard-listed USP Group Ltd in which SII is a wholly-owned indirect subsidiary, “this appointment reflects our strategy of building recurring, high-value technical service revenue across the region,” added Tan.
In addition to SII being appointed authorised distributor and channel partner, IGD is obliged to render the former with technical and engineering support, tender and proposal assistance, product training and approved marketing assets.
This combines IGD’s UK-manufactured fixed gas detection systems with SII’s SIICAL calibration laboratory and validation services which will eventually strengthens SMG’s Asia-Pacific presence and USP Group’s instrumentation and safety solutions portfolio.

In fact, the SII’s appointment is an important step in strengthening IGD’s presence and customer support in Singapore.
“Effective gas detection requires more than proven technology; it depends on strong application knowledge, responsive local service and dependable support throughout the life of a system,” stressed IGD’s commercial manager Adam Pilkington.
SII’s technical capability, calibration expertise and established presence in Singapore make it a strong partner for IGD.
By combining our engineering and gas detection experience with SII’s local expertise, we’ll help customers protect their people, facilities and operations. We look forward to building a long-term partnership founded on safety, quality and shared commitment to our customers.

More broadly, Singapore is a cornerstone of SMG’s Asia-Pacific strategy whereby partnering with SII accelerates its mission of protecting people, equipment and the environment across the region.
“SII’s technical depth, its SIICAL calibration laboratory and its long-standing relationships in regulated industries make it the ideal partner to bring IGD’s technology to the Singapore market,” envisages SMG’s Asia Pacific president Uu Su Haw.
“This appointment builds on our recent expansion into APAC and signals our long-term commitment to the region.” – Oct 1,2026
