MP slams authorities for fining man wearing jacket with PH symbol

PKR communication director Fahmi Fadzil has slammed the authorities for issuing a RM4,000 fine to a man for wearing a jacket bearing the Pakatan Harapan (PH) symbol.

“Crazy, getting compounded for wearing the Pakatan Harapan emblem. Because the emblem spreads virus. Just not the COVID-19 virus but the democracy virus. That’s the virus they are most afraid of,” he tweeted.

The Lembah Pantai MP also attached an image of the summons on his tweet.

According to news reports, the man in question was fined for allegedly campaigning at a stall in Alor Gajah, Melaka.

The Election Commission (EC) had previously released a list of do’s and don’ts for political campaigning ahead of Melaka’s 15th state polls to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

In a media conference after the nomination of candidates on Monday (Nov 8), EC chairman Datuk Abdul Ghani Salleh had announced that ceramah (talks), public speeches and physical campaigns are not allowed during the Melaka state election.

He also called on all parties involved in the election to comply with standard operating procedures (SOPs) to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Melaka has 28 state constituencies and 495,196 registered voters.

Polling day for Melaka is set for Nov 20. – Nov 12, 2021
