AirAsia and Batik Air spread their wings to aid stranded MYAirline passengers

BUDGET carriers AirAsia and Batik Air have come forward to assist passengers affected by the recent suspension of operations by MYAirline.

As the news of MYAirline’s closure sent shockwaves through the travel community, these competitors turned compassionate saviours and announced exclusive discounts, ensuring that stranded travellers find solace amidst uncertainty.

AirAsia unveiled a groundbreaking 50% discount on base fares for MYAirline passengers with confirmed flight bookings to and from various destinations, including Kuala Lumpur, Langkawi, Penang, Tawau, Kota Bharu, Kuching, Kota Kinabalu, Kota Kinabalu-Tawau, Don Mueng-Bangkok and Suvarnabhumi-Bangkok.

The discount, applicable until Nov 30 is for a one-way fare excluding airport tax, MAVCOM (Malaysian Aviation Commission) fee, fuel surcharge and other applicable fees.

To avail of this offer, impacted passengers need only to present their confirmed MYAirline flight bookings at designated AirAsia Sales Counters including KL Sentral, Kuala Lumpur International Airport, Langkawi International Airport, Penang International Airport, and airports in Kota Bharu, Kuching, Tawau and Kota Kinabalu.

AirAsia Aviation Group Limited CEO Bo Lingam expressed deep empathy for the passengers and staff of MYAirline.

“We understand the stress and disruption this situation has caused and hope that this 50 percent discount will assist affected passengers in making new travel arrangements, making full use of our extensive flight network to all key destinations,” he stated.

Moreover, he also said that the company would consider hiring eligible and qualified individuals from MYAirline and encouraged affected MYAirline staff to reach out.

Meanwhile, Batik Air also extended a helping hand to stranded travellers by offering fixed-rate discounts on selected routes.

Passengers can now avail of special one-way fares covering Penang (RM129), Langkawi (RM159), Kuching (RM199), Kota Kinabalu (RM299) and Bangkok (Don Muang).

Lion Group and Batik Air strategic director Datuk Chandran Rama Muthy emphasised that these offers are applicable for travel until Nov 30, subject to seat availability. – Oct 12, 2023
