Anwar commits to the eradication of poverty in the opposition-held state, Kedah

PRIME Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has announced his commitment to eradicating extreme poverty in the country, particularly in the states of Kedah and in other states like Sabah, Sarawak, Kelantan, and Terengganu.Speaking at the open house in Kedah, he emphasised the importance of cooperation between the federal government and state agencies to achieve this goal through programmes initiated by the federal government.“This year, we have decided to fully eradicate extreme poverty. Among the states that still have a high number of people living in extreme poverty are Sabah, Sarawak, Kelantan, Terengganu and Kedah.“We will ensure that (poverty eradication), without exception. InsyaAllah, this issue will be properly addressed this time and the unity government will eradicate the number of people living in extreme poverty,” he said.Anwar also expressed his determination to facilitate investments from China into the Kulim Hi-Tech Park and increase funding for dilapidated schools, clinics, and water supply projects in Kedah.He stated that the federal government had approved a higher allocation for Kedah this year than the previous administration, including aid for padi farmers, small rubber holders, and fishermen.Anwar stressed the need for good governance, rejecting corruption and abuse of power, and optimising the government machinery to safeguard people’s welfare to achieve a prosperous, successful, and civilised state status.The PM made these comments at the Malaysia Madani Aidilfitri Open House in Alor Setar, Kedah, which is the first stop of a series of open houses held across the country. — April 29, 2023
