BUDGET carrier MYAirline which commenced operations on Dec 1 last year will suspend its operations effective today (Oct 12) until further notice.
The airline has come to this extremely painful decision because of significant financial pressures that have made it necessary to suspend operations pending the shareholder restructuring and recapitalization of the airline.
“We deeply regret and apologize for having to make this decision as we understand the impact it will have on our loyal passengers, dedicated employees and partners,” read a statement from the MYAirline board of directors.
“We have worked tirelessly to explore various partnership and capital raising options to prevent this suspension. Unfortunately, the constraints of time have left us with no alternative but to take this decision.”
In view of the indefinite suspension of its service, the budget carrier which was founded on Jan 11, 2021 advised affected passengers “to not head to the airport and seek for alternative travel arrangements to their destinations”.
“The board, shareholders and all of us at MYAirline will be working tirelessly to resume operations as quickly as possible but at this stage, we are unable to commit to any timeline,” lamented the airline.
“We reiterate our sincerest apologies for any difficulty and inconvenience arising from this suspension and will do our utmost to provide any updates when they become available. Kindly reach out to us at [email protected] and our support team will be readily available to provide their assistance.”
Most recently, Free Malaysia Today claimed that a “local entrepreneur” was close to launching a takeover bid for MYAirline with few “town hall” meetings having already been held with the incoming owner.
Media reports have suggested that Abang Abdillah Izzarim Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari, a businessman and commercial pilot who is the son of current Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg may be the new owner given that he was sighted at one of MYAirline’s “town hall” sessions.
But this has been denied by sources close to the Sarawak state government. – Oct 12, 2023
