KKB by-election: Pang reveals she scored straight A’s for SPM after PAS’ academic dare

DAP’s Pang Sock Tao, the Pakatan Harapan candidate for the forthcoming Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election – has shared her SPM and UPSR results after a PAS leader had raised questions about where she had finished her primary and secondary schooling.

Recall that on Sunday, PAS information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari had issued the challenge to Pang, saying “it would be interesting to know”.

In a Facebook post, Pang had attached copies of her results for SPM and UPSR, showing straight As for both of the major examinations.

“Yang Berhormat Pasir Mas Tuan Ahmad Fadhli Shaari asked (where I sat for my) UPSR and SPM. Here is the answer,” the Sekolah Menengah Chung Hua Port Dickson and SJKC (national-type Chinese school) On Pong, Ampang alumnus said.

“I am indebted to the teachers who have taught me. A mere thank you is certainly not enough in return for the dedication they have poured into educating me.”

She also expressed gratitude to her parents for not neglecting her education.

Ahmad Fadhli issued the challenge to Pang yesterday after Perikatan Nasional candidate Khairul Azhari Saut faced controversy regarding his academic credentials.

Various quarters had raised questions after it was revealed that Khairul Azhari had obtained an executive management diploma from Universiti Malaya (UM) in 2019 and an executive master’s from the University Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) two years later.

Some questioned how he could jump straight to a master’s level without first taking a bachelor’s degree and how he completed his studies in 2021 during the movement control order to curb COVID-19.

“The education issue of the Perikatan Nasional candidate has been resolved. The university (UMPSA) has issued a statement regarding the executive business management master’s degree he holds, and the certificate transcript has also been distributed,” Ahmad Fadhli said in a statement.

“Now, I challenge the Harapan candidate to state her primary and secondary education. Please, where were the UPSR and SPM taken, it would certainly be interesting to know.”

Pang is in a four-way fight for the Kuala Kubu Baharu seat against PN’s Khairul Azhari, Parti Rakyat Malaysia’s Hafizah Zainuddin and independent candidate Nyau Ke Xin.

The seat became vacant following the death of three-term DAP assemblyman Lee Kee Hiong on March 21 from cancer.

KKB is a mixed seat with a voter breakdown of Malay (46%), Chinese (30%), and Indian (18%) and others (6%).

Polling day will be on May 11, with early voting on May 7. – April 29, 2024
