PM denies talk of Nurul Izzah as Selangor MB

PRIME Minister (PM) Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has clarified that there were no discussions on PKR deputy president Nurul Izzah Anwar replacing Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari as Selangor Menteri Besar (MB).

He said Amirudin had never raised the matter with him, adding that the suggestion was solely Amirudin’s view.

“That is his view. He never discussed it with me,” he said after Amirudin’s public remark that he had proposed Nurul Izzah as his successor.

Amiruddin also suggested that he was ready for a federal role, to which Anwar replied, “That is only one position. There are three vacancies, at least.”

Anwar altogether dismissed talks of a cabinet reshuffle.

“When is the election? Still a long way to go… we will discuss later.”

The Selangor MB had earlier confirmed that he conveyed the idea directly to Nurul Izzah, stating that it was for her to decide. He said the move could help avoid perceptions of nepotism and provide a viable “landing” option for her political trajectory.

In May,  Nurul Izzah secured the PKR deputy presidency, defeating incumbent Rafizi Ramli in an election that has divided the party.

The defeat led to Rafizi’s resignation as the economy minister. — Nov 22, 2025
